True leaders emerge.

March 10th, 2007 by Josh Rogers

Martin Buser, Jeff King, Lance Mackey, and Paul Gebhardt are all on their way from Greyling to Eagle Island and from there it will be a long trek to Kaltag, and Unalakleet will be the next big destination from there. I’ve reached my “halfway point” starting out this morning in Anchorage one week after mushers left this town. I’m heading up to Nome today and from there will try to catch a plane out to Unalakleet to give you coverage of the Well’s Fargo Gold Coast award.

Buser arrived and left Greyling just under half an hour before King showed up, and just under 3 hours before Mackey. With half an hour separating the top two teams, there isn’t going to be anyone calling a winner for anytime soon. The real question will be if Mackey and Gebhardt can catch up with the top two. It shouldn’t be to hard….but very fun to watch if it happens.

Look for video & audio coming from Unalakleet soon.
