From Unalakleet: Mushers to arrive soon.

March 11th, 2007 by Josh Rogers

It won’t be long now until we start to see mushers arrive into Unalakleet. Now its not only the regional media that has arrived, but we are seeing the official media here too (the versus network, iditarod.com reporters, and Jon Little from Cabela’s Iditarod). The town is a buzz about when everyone will arrive. Right now, it also could be a case of WHO will arrive. Martin Buser left Kaltag just 15 minutes after Jeff King, but he also came in later and took less of a rest. Paul Gebhardt and Lance Mackey came in just about two hours later but are running their dogs just a little bit faster. Its 90 miles from Kaltag to here in Unalakleet, and many at the checkpoint here think mushers will stop and rest at old woman cabin just 30 miles out of town to shorten a stay once they arrive.

You can view photos of my first day here in Unalakleet by (clicking here) or navigate to the Iditablog Gallery.

Take a look over on dogsled.com and try to catch the live stream of the mushers coming in, provided by the Bering Straight School District.
