Iditarod on Discovery 2008 – Ep 5

We’re down to just one episode left of this fantastic show on the Discovery Channel.  This week, while we didn’t get much of a view of mushers who weren’t in the top 10 – it was very fun to watch the inside view of Lance Mackey on the trail, with Jeff King right behind him.  It was also fun to see local musher Rick Holt arrive at Unalakleet to the warm greetings of so many friends and supporters.  Lance’s sneak out of the Elim Checkpoint while Jeff King was still sleeping will prove to be a pivotal point in the race for both competitors and it was very interesting to see the betrayal that King felt upon waking.

Make sure you tune in next week as the race comes to a close and everyone arrives in Nome. We’ll see you next spring!

    When I saw the original coverage of the race, I was upset with what I thought was some bad sportsmanship. I could be wrong and I am sure Jeff King is a great guy. I can only go on with what I saw on the TV.

    I agree it was interesting to see Jeff King feel betrayed. I thought he should have felt ashamed. He had the stronger team, he could have easily taken the lead, helped break trail and win the race from the front. Instead it looked like he wanted to break Mackey’s team first. It looked to me that he was toying with Lance, waiting for Mackey’s team to break then he could go on win the race.

    I was amazed at the heart of Lance’s dogs, how they sped up to keep ahead of King’s team. It goes to show you that heart can mean everything.

    Our DVR malfunctioned and I lost the last episode before I got to watch it. SO disappointing!!

    I’m cheering for Lance Mackey, I have to say. I love when the scrappy folks can stand up to the polished precision folks ;)

    I really like Lance Mackey and Cane i think they are so cool!!!
    i think Cane is so cute also!
