My name is Josh Rogers, I was born in Alaska and lived there until grade school. During the time I spent as a child living in Nome, each Iditarod my parents would take me down to front street so I could “see the dogs come in”. I also have fond memories of Saturday mornings living in Anchorage when we would go downtown to 4th Ave to watch the start of the race. We moved from Alaska to the Seattle area and for years I didn’t even hear about Iditarod or dog mushing each spring.

Then a few years ago, my wife and I moved to Nome, and spent our time volunteering at radio station KICY. During this experience I was able to get in touch with my “Alaska side” that was deep inside me. The highlight of my experience was the time I spent covering the Iditarod. I flew from Nome to Anchorage for the start of the race, interviewed mushers, attended the banquets, and drove to Willow for the re-start. I also made my way up the trail once the race would get to the coast. The entire time I was producing multiple reports a day on the progress of the race and its participants to air on the radio, along with the television specials that were produced by OLN (now the versus network).

My wife and I moved back down to the lower 48, and ever since then I’ve been covering the Iditarod online, and making trips to Alaska to see the race in person.  I’m very excited to attend my SECOND All Alaska Sweepstakes, although as an infant living in Nome in 1983, I don’t remember very much about the last one.  I’ll be here throughout the race sharing my experiences with you via this website.  When its all over I’ll go back to my day job and look forward to next winter when its mushing season again.
