i love iditarod i want to be in one butt i am not old enough to join butt i do love dogs im only 12 and i want some stuff you guys use like those doggie mittens and i want a t-shirt that say iditarod 09 in the front and in the back i want it to be like kimberly skin on the top back and on the bottom i want an iditarod picture of the most famous winner in 09… thank you??

Thanks so much for your coverage.
My husband and I left the computer on 24-7 to keep up with the race and developed several sites we checked. Yours was always the one with the most cogent and fun-to-read stuff.

ps we live in Pescadero, CA and got hooked on a trip to AK three years ago. Much warmer here!

It was so great to be able to hear Lance come down Front Street in Nome and be able to hear the fans and the excitement of the moment. We live in Dayton, Ohio now and I really miss the Iditarod (we lived in Alaska for 3 years and I always volunteered with the Iditarod in Anchorage doing various jobs). Thanks for the great webcast, you did a wonderful job describing Lance’s momentous approach to the burled arch and into Iditarod history. Don’t count him out next year either, Lance Mackey and his awesome dogs have what it takes to set a new record. I can only hope my favorite dog, Larry, gets to go to Nome next year.

We got to meet Lance last year in Michigan. He was a great influence for my daughter. His message of courage, hard work and humility was a great lesson! He’s not in anyway a braggart or cocky. A TRUE winner!

I have followed Lances’ race history over the years and I think it is a great story of courage and determination in the face of lots of trials in life. Let’s hear more stories about other mushers. I am SOOO happy that Lance could win this one again…Good Job…

Was wanting to know if anyone heard why Swenson holed up in Unalakleet so long? I know it was a bad storm but I know Rick and he usually would had made the run unless something happened to him or his dogs.

Is there an advantage to having more dogs in the race (I’d assume so).

I’m showing Lance Mackey with 16 dogs out and all the rest competitors have 15, 14 or even 13 dogs.

Just want to say “Thanks” for the great race coverage. This is the first year I have paid much attention - what an amazing competition. Yoshida lives just outside my home town so we were excited to see her run and wish her the best in finding her dog and realizing all that she (and all the mushers) has/have accomplished.

Two things to respond to. Nancy had to scratch. There is an interview with her on one of the blogs following the race. Several mushers overstayed their 24 hour rest. It seems to me that Mother Nature is dictating how the race sets up this year. There are reports of deep snow and soft trail. The trail breakers on snowmobiles have had to go over the trail a couple times already. There is no telling how it will set up until we get reports from Iditarod. Its a long haul to there. It seems to me that the most patient will be rewarded this year.

Thank You so much for talking about Aaron Peck. He has a huge fan base in Ontario, Alberta and British columbia and we have been haivng a hard time finding pictures or anything about him. I have been updating his Fan group every day on Facebook and searched over 300 pictures so far to find just a few of him at the start. I would love it if someone would do an interview with him so all of us here cheering him on could listen. Love your site and you guys really give alot of insight into what’s happening I am also an iditarod insider and have the GPS tracker I also try to read all the article run in the Anchorage daily news. We love Iditarod in Canada

Lance Mackey overstayed his 24-hour rest period by 4 minutes. History tells us one second can be the difference between winning and losing. 4 minutes could be huge!

I sure do miss Jeff’s coverage of the Iditarod this year I could count on your blog to keep up on what was going on and really get a feel for the race and strategy involved. Unless one wants to fork out the dough for the Insider, there is NO information on the official website other than standings. As an avid Iditarod fan for the last five years, this year’s official coverage is SOOO disappointing. Miss Ya!!!!

I think you are a little bit incorrect in your comments to the team with the largest engine, Bjornar Andersen. He has best racetime between every checkpoint, but he rests more than the other. I think he will be one of the top three, maybe he will win. I hope so.
